Celebrating A Hero!

Image
As I post this its been about 45 days since Our Hero Passed on. I grew up during the Era of President Moi - the Man that was popularly referred to as Nyayo and was associated with  carrying a 'Rungu' ( a wooden throwing club). He was the Man behind Nyayo Milk, though I never got to drink it.  He is the Man that ruled Kenya for 24 Years with two attempted coups, it was a thirst for change. I remember the day so clearly it was on 30th December 2002, the third president Mwai Kibaki was being sworn in. Those  were the days Kenyan elections were conducted in December.  Clearly I remember I was sitting on the couch watching the events as they unfolded on our Great Wall television, I always sat next to the T.V because those days we changed the channels using the buttons on the tv there were no remote controls🤣🤣🤣that was enough exercise walking from the chair to the tv so sitting next to it was a well thought plan 😉and the children were the remote controls those days yo...

A Sign of Woman Hood!

Image
As I write this, I cant help but flash back on the fond memories I have of my mother's late sister, Teresia Wanjiru, she was a beautiful, brown(it runs in the family) with soft black hair. And very friendly. And cooked the best Mandazi's.  May she continue resting in peace.  I remember it was the year my age mates were eagerly waiting to start their Menstural Cycle, looking forward to what we termed as the definition of Womanhood. We had learnt about it in Primary and Secondary under the topic of Reproduction in our Biology class. All we could do was just imagine with our little heads, I mean how does blood just start flowing from my body😂😂😂So we waited.......... During those days in High Schools, I fondly remember companies that dealt with Menstural Hygiene would visit our schools and give us products such as Pads, Panty liners all we did was keep them in our desks until the day of its use. And so as others told their first time stories and experiences, my turn finally arr...

A Written Will

Image
My main motivation for writing this is the fact that  I have witnessed my mother & father have disagreements with their respective siblings on matters to do with the Inheritance of their parents. I would dread a time when I & my siblings disagree over our parents properties/inheritance. I tell you it's all Vanity! A will or a Testament is simply defined as a legal document that expresses a person's wishes as to how their property is to be distributed after their death.  Failure to prepare a will typically leaves decisions about your estate in the hands of judges or state officials and may also cause family strife! Today we witness this as one major reason of division in families & sometimes it can lead to Murder! Unfortunately this  concept has not been fully embraced in Africa. Writing a will or a Testament doesn't mean I am dying the next minute it is simply my way of showing an act of Love to my loved ones, by making their life easier when I am gone.....No ...

Are You A Star!

Image
I recently watched a movie(A Place in the Stars) ooh yes you guessed right😊😊 it was a naija movie 😆😆there is just something about those Oga Movies, gist for another day.  The movie begins as a Father and his two Sons are sitting by the fire in a Village set up. And of the sons asks the Father a question that is very typical of any curious child. 'Papa, how are formed'? And the Father's response is very interesting that makes one to question if they are really Stars. And his response goes like this, when one is good, honest and selfless in all their deeds they are given a place in the stars & go on to be a guiding light to all of us on earth so we do not leave the path of goodness. And his Son goes on to tell him 'I want a place Star. The question is are you or am I a Star? Scientifically a Star is defined as an astronomical object consisting of a luminous spheroid of plasma held together by its own gravity. Another definition states that a star is a symbol o...

A Precious Gift !

Image
Every time I come across a young girl in a Crisis (unplanned)Pregnancy I simply tell them that it's the beginning of a beautiful story worth telling some day.  Precious is defined as something or someone of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly. And babies are precious gifts from God the Father. It starts with a phone call or a message, and on the other end there is a young girl, lady and woman she is in distress, confused  😥😭 yes pregnancy was not part of the plan. Her world has literally come to a standstill.  She wants a solution so fast, she is so vulnerable. Sometimes she can make the call in the morning and come to the office in the afternoon. My work is to assure her that it will be well and help her make a better and informed choice. She looks at me in distress. How can I tell her it is well and   I am not in her shoes? All I know is it will end well. What she doesn't know is that I have seen quite a number and I can draf...

Lockdown Shenanigans ... ...

Image
I used the word shenanigans, because I have a friend(It's at Cess) who simply laughs and makes fun to the fact that I can't pronounce the word shenanigans well if I cant say it I surely can spell it 😁 Ooh yes, here in +254 we are back to lockdown😥😦😧and why it had happened during Easter again is indeed a wonder and a story for another day. The world was introduced to this terminology last year (March) when the world was hit by the Covid -19 Pandemic or some refer to it as a Plandemic. In simple  terms a lockdown is a state of isolation or restricted. But let me say this, I look back when we went on a Lockdown last year for almost six months😪😪😪 yes six(6) months of just staying indoors. Indeed there are positive aspects of it or memories worth remembering. Before Lockdown my dearest mummy used to think that my sister & I really don't know much about cooking. A culture began on Social Media of people posting their lockdown cooking skills. My sister & I weren...

Saving A Soul

Image
It was last year, on All Soul's Day. Yes the memory is still fresh as if it had happened yesterday. All Soul's Day also known as the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed is a day of Prayer and remembrance for the Souls of those gone before us, which is observed by the Catholic Faithful. Its a day of obligation where Catholics are encouraged to attend the Holy Eucharist Celebration(Holy Mass).  Personally the Mass gives me that reality check that one day just one day I will leave this earth and go back to my maker and that goes for all of us. And on that particular day the Priest encouraged to pray for a peaceful death. After Mass I bumped into a great friend of mine, as we were walking & catching up, a  man approached us and asked us where City Park was, my friend didn't have an idea I on the other hand knew the Park so well as it was in my neighborhood, but I couldn't help but think of why he would be going there yet it was around 6pm and we are living in tim...
